HOSHINOYA is a luxury contemporary resort
where the location is not simply an incidental backdrop.
It is a rich environment of sophisticated cultures and traditions
and stunning seasonal sights, sounds, and flavors—
elements that inspire the overarching concept of each resort,
whether it is the lifestyles of feudal Kyoto aristocracy
or an immense water temple in the jungles of Bali.

The name dates back to the Hoshino Hot Spring Inn,
opened in 1914 and operated by our founder’s great-grandfather.
He dug deep into the earth of Karuizawa
to access the hot spring waters that flowed below,
but he also dug deep into the area’s culture
from a desire to immerse his guests in the rich local ambience.

HOSHINOYA takes this approach and enhances it,
adding thematic richness to local inspiration and authenticity.
Each of the resort’s eight locations is an entirely new world,
shaped by a singular concept that captures the area’s essence.
It has been designed to amaze, immerse—and transport.
