Picchio--Italian for "woodpecker"--is a group of environmental specialists who research and help preserve the wildlife of Karuizawa. Through ecotours and educational activities, the group introduces visitors to this vibrant wildlife. By promoting forests as places of fun and wonder that are also irreplaceable, the group hopes to increase the economic value of forests and ensure they are passed on unchanged to later generations.
