温泉の楽しみ方を提案する設計
台湾の人は温泉好きが多いと聞いています。台湾にはいくつかの有名な温泉地があり、この谷關（グーグァン）もその一つ。谷關の温泉街を見下ろす山の中腹に「星のやグーグァン」があります。台湾で温泉をテーマにした「星のや」流のリゾートを計画するにあたり、まず大切にしたのは台湾と日本の温泉文化の違いです。例えば、多くの台湾の温泉では、水着を着て入りますが、これは日本の温泉文化では開放感の喪失となり、温泉の醍醐味を失いかねないものです。
そして、いかに風景を愛で、自然の風を楽しむかも大切な魅力の一つです。大浴場は、外の景色を絞り込むように窓を設けた日本的な木質系の内湯と、斬新なデザインの露天風呂を楽しめます。繊細な心遣いや、自然との対峙の仕方などを感じてもらえたらと思います。
また、台湾の魅力であるおおらかな空間の使い方を活かして設計しました。 客室棟は、台湾の入り組んだ街のイメージで立面を凸凹させ、より自由な印象のファサードにしました。一方でレセプションは広く美術館のような空間とし、非日常にワープするための空間づくりを意識しています。
客室には全室半露天風呂を設け、ほとんどの客室がメゾネットです。風を感じながらゆっくりと温泉に浸かる時間と、リビングや寝室でくつろぐ時間、2つの時間の楽しさを感じてほしいという思いから、浴室などの水回りエリアを切り離して独立フロアとしています。
温泉好きの２つの国の良さを生かした「星のやグーグァン」をどうぞお楽しみください。
